Embrace Juneteenth by Celebrating Freedom and Unity

Juneteenth commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States, marking the day when the news of their freedom finally reached the last remaining enslaved individuals in Galveston, Texas, on June 19, 1865.

As we honor this historic milestone in our country’s great history, we draw inspiration from the Bible. In his letter to the Galatians, Paul writes, “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery” (5:1). This Scripture reminds us that the pursuit of freedom is both a divine gift and a responsibility we bear. It encourages us to stand firm in our commitment to justice, equality, and the liberation of all people.

Juneteenth provides us with an opportunity to celebrate the progress we have made as a nation, acknowledge the struggles endured, and foster unity among diverse communities. Together, we honor the resilience and triumph of the human spirit as we reflect on the lessons of the past and work toward a future characterized by equality and compassion.

On this Juneteenth holiday, let’s take time to lift up in prayer, those who remain enslaved in this country and around the world. May you and your loved ones’ day be filled with reflection, hope, and a renewed dedication to the values of freedom and justice.

God bless you,
