Cup of Christmas: To Do vs. To Be

Kim CrabillBy Kim Crabill4 Minutes

Hello friend, and welcome back to Strengthen Your Walk. I’m Kim Crabill. Please grab your coffee or tea and let’s sit for just a minute. Join me for today’s “Cup of Christmas.” It’s our special time to stop, be still, and prepare ourselves for what God has for us today.

Okay, I have to confess something. I love to-do lists. I really do. There’s nothing better to me than beginning the day with my long list and then, at the end of the day, being able to mark through each item. Done, done, done.

While I’m confessing, I guess I’ll just go ahead and tell you that if I’ve done something during the day that’s not on that list, I write it on the list just so I can mark it through, Done, complete.

Oh, the supreme feeling of accomplishment. Does anybody know what I’m talking about?

To-do lists are great, but God so often reminds me that there’s a higher calling for us to remember. And it’s a calling to which we awaken not only each day of the Christmas season, but every day. And that, my friend, is discovered in 2 Corinthians 5:20.

We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors. How amazing is it that God has chosen you and I to be His personal representatives? It’s an awesome appointment and it carries with it an amazing challenge. The apostle Paul describes it as the challenge to live a life worthy of the calling. Let me grab my list so I know what to do.

What does a life like that look like? Paul begins with some of the answers in Ephesians 4:1-6. He says, “Be completely humble. Be gentle, be patient, bearing with one another.” Are you hearing what I’m hearing? There are no to-do words in there. The keyword is be. Something about life, and especially life during the Christmas season spurs us to do … do more. Do more shopping. Do more baking. Do more entertaining. Do more. You fill in the blank of what you have on your to-do list. And all that is great if we’re using these times to be more like Jesus.

I’m being challenged today to put at the top of my to-do list to be, as 2 Corinthians 5:20 invites us, to be the ambassador of Christ. As though God Himself were making His appeal to others through me. God wants to use us this year to show others the way to Him.

Friends, there’s no to-do list more satisfying than bringing others to the knowledge of God’s grace and love. It is, without a doubt, the best gift you and I can ever give to those around us.

Dear Father, it is such an honor to be Your ambassador. Slow us down. And open our eyes to see how we can be Your invitation to others this Christmas.

Well, friends, I want to thank you so much for joining me these past sessions of “Cup of Christmas.” I pray that our time will strengthen your walk.
