Greatest Rescue Mission

Christmas Day: The Greatest Rescue Mission Ever Launched

David CerulloBy David Cerullo8 Minutes

On that quiet night in Bethlehem more than two thousand years ago, heaven initiated the greatest rescue mission in history. It didn’t begin with fanfare, armies, or political power. It began with a Child—wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger, born to accomplish what no earthly power ever could: to rescue humanity from the darkness we could never escape on our own.

Christmas is more than a celebration of Christ’s birth; it is a celebration of God’s intervention. It is the moment when eternity stepped into time, when the Creator entered His creation, when the Rescuer arrived in the most unexpected way.

The Mission Briefing: Luke 4:18–19

Years after that holy night, Jesus would stand in the synagogue in Nazareth, open the scroll of Isaiah, and declare His mission with crystal clarity:

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me,
because He has anointed Me
to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent Me to proclaim liberty to the captives
and recovering of sight to the blind,
to set at liberty those who are oppressed,
to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor“ (Luke 4:18–19).

This was His mission statement … God’s rescue plan revealed.

Good news to the poor. Freedom to the captive. Sight to the blind. Deliverance for the oppressed. A declaration of God’s favor.

Christmas is not only the story of a baby; it is the story of a Savior stepping into enemy-occupied territory to reclaim what was lost, to restore what was broken, and to redeem what seemed beyond hope. The birth of Jesus was the planting of Heaven’s flag on earth’s soil.

And His mission didn’t end with His ascension back into Heaven.

It was only beginning.

The Multiplying Rescue Force

Jesus never intended to be the only Rescuer. Instead, He raised an army of image-bearers who would carry His name and His mission into every tribe, every nation, and every generation.

He called fishermen, tax collectors, zealots, and ordinary men and women from every walk of life. He discipled them, empowered them, and then gave them their own “mission briefing”:

“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations …” (Matthew 28:19).

Not make converts. Not build crowds. Not accumulate admirers.

Make disciples.

The rescue mission multiplies only when disciples turn around and make disciples … who then make disciples … who then make disciples until the day He returns in glory.

This chain—this living, multiplying, Spirit-ignited movement—was the heartbeat of the early church. And it is still the heartbeat of the Kingdom today.

From Bethlehem to Today’s Digital Doorstep

We live in a moment the shepherds and wise men could have never imagined … a moment when the rescue mission announced by angels can now reach around the world in seconds.

No walls can contain it. No borders can stop it. No government can silence it. No distance can weaken it.

Through our online salvation and discipleship outreach, the mission of Luke 4:18–19 is advancing. It is traveling farther, faster, and with more impact than ever before in history. Millions each year are discovering the Good News through phones, laptops, and screens of every size. Many whou would never step into a church are stepping into a relationship with Jesus—right where they are.

The poor are hearing the gospel. The spiritually blind are receiving sight. The captives are walking into freedom. The oppressed are encountering hope.

We are witnessing the rescue mission Jesus launched in Bethlehem, continuing with power today in homes, villages, cities, refugee communities, prisons, and unreached corners of the world.

And the most beautiful part?

It is happening through everyday believers—partners like you—who have chosen to be part of this ongoing mission of mercy.

Christmas Is a Call to Action

On Christmas Day, we rejoice that the Rescuer has come. But we also remember that He invited us—commanded us—to participate in His mission:

To proclaim the good news. To carry freedom. To offer sight. To break chains. To announce God’s favor everywhere we go.

This is the high calling of every believer. Not just pastors. Not just missionaries. Not just leaders.

Every disciple. Every follower of Jesus. Every person who has been rescued is called to join the rescue mission.

And today, that mission field is just one click away.

Your involvement in our online salvation and discipleship outreach is not merely supporting a program—it is partnering with the greatest rescue effort the world has ever known. It is stepping into the very heart of Jesus’ mission and multiplying His impact to the ends of the earth.

Discipling Without Borders

As we close out this blessed day, I invite you to respond to the heart of the Rescuer. The nations are waiting. The harvest is ready. The world is desperate for the hope that was born that day in Bethlehem.

This Christmas, join us in “discipling without borders.” Stand with us as we bring the message of Luke 4:18–19 to souls who have never heard of it. Link arms with us as we raise up new believers and new disciples in places where the gospel has been silenced or forgotten.

Help us ensure that the rescue mission Jesus launched will reach every person possible before He returns.

And here’s something I want you to hear with all your heart: there is nothing more fulfilling, more life-giving, or more eternally significant than being part of God’s rescue mission. When you help lead a soul out of darkness … when you play a part in someone meeting Jesus … when you take your place in the chain of disciples making disciples … you step into the very purpose you were created for.

You don’t just watch the mission—you experience the joy, the meaning, and the blessing of it. You become part of heaven’s story. You taste the deep satisfaction of knowing your life is pushing back darkness and expanding the Kingdom.

The mission began in a manger. It continues through you. And it won’t be finished until the whole world knows that the Rescuer has come, that freedom is available, and that the favor of the Lord is at hand.

Merry Christmas—and welcome to the greatest rescue mission ever launched.

Your partnership today helps reach souls around the world. The mission started in a manger—help carry it forward today.
