Celebrate the Love of Christ with Your Loved Ones

Although Valentine’s Day is celebrated today as a chance to show your love and affection toward the loved ones in your life, it was originally a day of feasting to commemorate the lives of two or three early Christian martyrs all named Saint Valentine — one of whom, according to legend, signed a letter to his jailer’s daughter “from your Valentine.”

Though the holiday is historically linked to the death of several Christian martyrs around the third century AD, it wasn’t until more than a thousand years later that the practice of giving loved ones presents became more commonplace.

Today, Valentine’s Day is all about romance and love, and nowhere else is love defined better than in 1 Corinthians 13:4–8 (NIV):

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.

So today as you celebrate with your loved ones, please remember what the Bible says about true love. We pray you have a Happy Valentine’s Day in the love of Christ.

God bless you,
