Prayers for Healing

Melissa HendersonBy Melissa Henderson5 Minutes

This article offers encouragement and examples of prayers for healing—whether physical, mental, or spiritual. In it, we remind you that God listens, responds in His perfect timing, and desires a deeper connection with us through our heartfelt petitions.

Often, an unexpected, troublesome medical diagnosis, a strained relationship with a family member or friend, or the struggle to forgive yourself are moments when we go to God in prayer and ask for healing. In times like these, when you think of prayers for healing, what comes to mind? Do you tend to think of physical healing first? Or perhaps mental and spiritual healing?

As believers, we can take our concerns and our joys to the Lord. No matter the situation, He is always listening. God wants a connection with His children. Throughout history, songs have been penned about taking our cares to the Lord and knowing He will answer. Furthermore, God provides comfort and peace during times when healing is needed. Sometimes, God may not answer our prayers for healing in the way we desire. However, God knows what is best. Ultimately, He will answer yes, no, or not now.

Physical Healing

  • Lord, thank You for the opportunity to pray. Please heal the body of our loved one. Amen.
  • God, we lift our friend to You. Please heal them of all diseases. Give them strength and stamina. In the name of Jesus, Amen.
  • Father, my body aches with pain. Please cover me with Your loving hands and give healing. Amen.
  • Abba Father, specifics are not known, but we have been asked to pray. Please heal the one who needs healing. Free their body and mind from all pain and sickness. Amen.
  • Lord, thank You for hearing our prayers. Whether physical healing is found on this earth or in Heaven, we know You are with us. Amen.

Mental Healing

  • Heavenly Father, my mind is filled with anxiety and stress. Please cover me with Your peace. Thank You. Amen.
  • Lord, our loved one needs mental healing. A broken relationship is causing conflict and worry. Please bring comfort. Amen.
  • God, remind us to ask for help when mental healing is needed. Help us to remember there is no shame in seeking help from trusted professionals. Amen.
  • Abba Father, bring calm to everyone who needs mental healing. Thank You. Amen.
  • God, when the news reports cause mental anguish and panic attacks, please cover us with Your loving arms and bring comfort. Thank You. In the name of Jesus, Amen.

Spiritual Healing

  • God, please cover our friend with Your protection. Remind them of Your love. Amen.
  • Lord, spiritual healing is needed. You know the details. We lift each person to You and ask for mind, body, and soul to be healed. Thank You. In the name of Your Son, Amen.
  • Father, we pray for those who have strayed from You. We know You will search and bring them back home. Please provide spiritual healing to those in need. Amen.
  • Heavenly Father, please comfort the broken-hearted and those people who need spiritual healing. Place Your loving arms around them as they feel Your comfort and peace. Amen.
  • God, thank You for spiritual healing. We are thankful to be Your children and that You never forget us. Amen.

In addition, are you part of a prayer ministry? Some churches have groups that offer anonymous prayer for anyone in need. If not, perhaps you could start a prayer team in your church or community. After all, God is always available to hear our petitions.

Ultimately, going to God and asking for prayers for healing can bring a deeper relationship with Him.

The Father is listening. Have you prayed today?
