Healing: Answers to Your Questions

In Healing: Answers to Our Questions, discover what Scripture really says about sickness, sin, healing, and the God who is still willing to make us whole.

What the Bible Says About Sickness, Sin, and the Power to Be Made Whole

Does God really want to heal me?

One day a leper asked Jesus a similar question when he begged to be cleansed (Mark 1:40–42)—and Jesus’ answer was clear. Moved with compassion, He said, “I am willing.” Just as He was willing to heal that leper, Jesus is willing to heal you.

The Gospels are full of verses that reveal Jesus’ willingness and ability to heal all kinds of diseases. Explore just a few of them:

  • Matthew 4:23–24

  • Matthew 12:15

  • Luke 4:40

  • 3 John 1:2

Healing wasn’t a side ministry for Jesus—it was central to His mission.

Where does sickness come from?

Sickness wasn’t part of God’s original design. Genesis 1:31 tells us that everything God made was “very good.”

So where did disease come from? Scripture teaches that sickness is part of the fallen world and, in many cases, an oppressive tool of the enemy:

Healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him (Acts 10:38 ESV).

At times, Jesus directly linked sickness to demonic spirits—what He called a “spirit of infirmity” (Luke 13:11 NKJV). While not every illness has that root, we should not ignore the spiritual dimension of healing.

Is someone’s sickness always the result of their personal sin?

No. Jesus made this point in John 9:1–7 when His disciples asked about a man born blind. His answer?

“Neither this man nor his parents sinned, but that the works of God should be revealed in him” (v. 3 NKJV).

However, James 5:15–16 also shows that personal sin can sometimes contribute to illness:

And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven (NKJV).

In such cases, confession and prayer go hand-in-hand with healing. It’s not about punishment—it’s about restoration.

Is my physical health related to my spiritual and emotional health?

Yes. Scripture affirms that we are holistic beings—spirit, soul, and body.

May your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless (1 Thessalonians 5:23 ESV)

Emotional or spiritual wounds may connect to your physical healing. That’s why Romans 12:1–2, and Mark 2:8–12 are so valuable—they remind us to pursue wholeness in every part of life.

The truth is—when one part of us suffers, it often affects the others. But when one part is healed, wholeness begins to ripple outward.

What factors block God’s healing power in my life?

The Bible identifies several obstacles that can hinder healing:

  • Unbelief

  • Unforgiveness

  • Pride

  • Disobedience

  • Fear and anxiety

  • Poor choices and chronic stress

But the good news? These barriers can be removed. Through prayer, repentance, and realignment with God’s truth, healing can flow freely again. God’s power is not diminished—but our posture to receive it matters. You can be healed.
