Your Song

For many couples, it is “our song.” Music with special meaning to their relationship. Perhaps a melody associated with memories or places. In fact, for many people, particular songs are linked to special moments, and can evoke powerful emotions.

The psalmist had this kind of attitude toward God’s Word. Some people think of reading the Bible as a chore; something they do reluctantly. Without enthusiasm. Others approach reading the Bible just a ritual. But the psalmist recognized the great joy he experienced when he read God’s Word. His principles had been “the music of my life.”

Thinking about His Word kept life in perspective and gave him meaning. It lifted his spirits and provided hope in every situation. God’s principles provided answers for every question he faced and guidance for every struggle. And His Word never changed.

This psalm is full of ways God’s principles brought joy to the psalmist. We read, “Joyful are people of integrity, who follow the instructions of the Lord. Joyful are those who obey his laws and search for him with all their hearts.” (vs. 1-2). “I have rejoiced in your laws” (v. 14). “I will delight in your decrees” (v. 16).

He found his “happiness” from walking “along the path of your commands” (v. 35). He realized that God had “done many good things for me…just as you promised” (v. 65).

In your life, ask yourself what your attitude is toward God’s Word. Do you look forward to reading His Word? Or are you reluctant? Is it a chore, or a joy?

Ask God to give you a fresh revelation of the power of the Bible, for you! Read it. Stand on it. Put His principles into action. Fall in love anew with His Word. Let it bring you joy!
