Your Passover Lamb

Daily Devotional2 Minutes

Jesus is your perfect Passover Lamb, who shed His blood for your redemption.

“Now on the first day of Unleavened Bread the disciples came to Jesus and asked, ‘Where do You want us to prepare for You to eat the Passover?’ … The disciples did as Jesus had directed them; and they prepared the Passover.”Matthew 26:17–19 NASB

On the night He was betrayed, Jesus made certain He and His disciples celebrated the Passover. This was not just an Old Testament ritual or a custom of the Jewish people. The Passover was a symbol of His own sacrificial death.

Jesus is the “Lamb of God” (John 1:29) who died for the sins of all people. We are redeemed “with precious blood, as of a lamb unblemished and spotless, the blood of Christ” (1 Peter 1:19).

The blood Jesus shed for us also demonstrates the protection and power of God. It reminds us that by putting the blood of an “unblemished” lamb on their doorposts, the children of Israel were protected from judgment and death (Exodus 12). Jesus died so that “He might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil” (Hebrews 2:14).

Passover remains an event of great importance for all believers. It was central not just to Old Testament Israel, but also to the New Testament church. Today, we can celebrate Passover by remembering Jesus’ death on the cross and accepting His finished work. We also can appropriate the power of His blood for protection and healing.

Remember that Jesus died for you. Because of His sacrificial death, your sins are forgiven. He rose again that you might have eternal life. You have victory through Jesus!
