Your Full Reward

Daily Devotional2 Minutes

Watch yourselves, that you do not lose what we have accomplished, but that you may receive a full reward.—2 John 1:8 NASB

The Bible is clear: We are saved by grace through faith as a gift of God. Not because of anything we do (Ephesians 2:8). But the Bible also describes rewards given to believers.

As Jesus taught in the Sermon on the Mount, each of us will be rewarded based on what we do with the resources we have been given (Matthew 6). Jesus also taught that we will be rewarded for what we have done in our lives (Matthew 25). John expanded on this teaching, using words related to wages paid when a job is performed with excellence.

We have a choice regarding the type of reward we will receive. Will we receive the full reward? Or just some? John suggests that both are possibilities.

What do we need to do if we want to receive our “full reward”? First, as Jesus taught, we need to be good stewards of our talents and the resources we have been given. We need to be willing to step out in faith, seek first God’s Kingdom, be obedient servants, faithfully serve God, and fulfill the assignments we have been given.

John also describes how our reward is related to how we live. We need to follow Jesus and obey God’s Word.

Think about your life. Seek to be faithful with the resources you have been given. Live so that you might receive your full reward!

Reflection Question: Are you living so that you can receive your full reward from God?

Prayer
Father, help me to be faithful with the resources You have given me. I seek first Your Kingdom. In Jesus’ name, amen.
