Your Daily Needs

The Bible encourages us to plan ahead. To be like ants, who gather in advance and prepare food for the future (Proverbs 6:6-8). We also are reminded of the importance of walking by faith, day by day. In our prayers, we are to ask God, “Give us this day our daily bread” (Matthew 6:11). This means trusting Him, moment by moment.

This doesn’t just apply to food. It applies to everything in life. God promises to provide whatever we need, but sometimes His timetable can be different from ours. We just need to trust Him.

This was the experience of the Israelites as they wandered in the wilderness. God miraculously provided them with manna, the food they needed. But He only provided manna for one day at a time. This was a test. God wanted to see “whether or not they will walk in My instruction” (Exodus 16:4-5).

Manna continued to appear for 40 years. But on the day they were able to eat the produce from the Promised Land, “the manna ceased” and “the sons of Israel no longer had manna.”

The Bible reminds us that God can provide for us in miraculous ways when we need miracles. But He does not want us to be lazy or reward us for being poor stewards. He expects us to apply the time, talent, and treasure He has given us. To be responsible and diligent. As Paul wrote, “if anyone is not willing to work, then he is not to eat, either” (2 Thessalonians 3:10).

Remember, you can trust God to provide your daily bread. But also remember to be prudent. To plan ahead. To be a good steward of the resources He has given you.
