You Can Have My Life

“I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him.”
Romans 12:1 NLT

Frances Havergal was a precocious child. Born in England in 1836, she started reading when she was four and writing poetry when she was seven. The daughter of a noted hymn writer, she memorized much of the Bible. She also developed a passion to reach others with the Gospel.
This passion was stirred when she visited a home where some were “unconverted and long prayed for.” Others were “converted, but not rejoicing Christians.” How she wanted them all to know God as she did!
She prayed, “Lord, give me all in this house!” God answered that prayer, and all ten household members committed their lives to Him. Moved by this experience, she wrote a hymn that described the dedication she felt toward God.
She wrote, “Take my life, and let it be consecrated, Lord, to Thee.” She prayed that God would take her moments and days, and “let them flow in ceaseless praise.” That her hands would “move at the impulse of Thy love.” That her feet would “be swift and beautiful for Thee.”
Frances dedicated everything to God. Her prayer was that she would sing only “for my King.” That her words would “be filled with messages from Thee.” She committed all her resources to Him, vowing, “not a mite would I withhold.” And she prayed that he would take her “intellect, and use every power as Thou shalt choose.”
The Bible tells us that God looks for those with this kind of total commitment.
Remember that He has given you everything. That you owe everything to Him. And He has given you opportunities to serve Him. Commit your life to Him anew. Let Him do great things through you!

Prayer: Father, take my life and let it be consecrated to You. Use my hands, my feet, my words, and the resources You have given me. I don’t withhold anything from You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
