Wisdom

Daily Devotional2 Minutes

God gave Solomon supernatural understanding, and He also gives us wisdom today. Seek Him for insight, discernment, and guidance in all things.

“Now God gave Solomon wisdom and very great discernment and breadth of mind, like the sand that is on the seashore. Solomon’s wisdom surpassed the wisdom of all the people of the east and all the wisdom of Egypt.”—1 Kings 4:29–30 NASB

People throughout the ancient world were dazzled by Solomon. No one was like him. His astonishing insights surpassed all other people. His wisdom was vast and uncountable, seemingly without limits. His mind comprehended an amazing variety of subjects.

But Solomon hadn’t just accumulated information. He possessed another dimension, supernatural wisdom. He had “very great discernment,” understanding what things meant and how life worked.

Few people recognized how Solomon came to have this wisdom. Perhaps they thought he had a superior education, outstanding teachers, or intelligent parents. Although those might have been contributing factors, the Bible tells us there is only one explanation for this wisdom: It was given to him sovereignly by God.

Many people aspire to have “the wisdom of Solomon.” The world esteems people who have mastered complex subjects or made great discoveries.

God’s wisdom outshines human wisdom. It’s beyond our comprehension. He knows and understands everything about the past, present, and future. And He offers to give us His wisdom.

Today, remember that God can give you wisdom for anything you need, on any subject. He can give you insights about the world today and how His plans are being fulfilled. Humble yourself before Him. Seek Him. Cry out for wisdom and understanding. Fill your mind with His Word.

Reflection Question: How can you seek God’s wisdom in your daily decisions?
