Why Me?

When “Why Me?” rises in your heart, it may reveal hidden blind spots—inviting you to let God search you, confront sin, and lead you into lasting change.

“You say … ‘Why have these things come upon me?’ … for the greatness of your iniquity … you suffer violence. Can … the leopard [change] his spots? Then you also can do good who are accustomed to do evil” (Jeremiah 13:22–23).

Some people found it easy to complain and point their fingers. They couldn’t understand why certain things had happened to them. They felt that they were innocent victims who didn’t deserve these results.

God reminded them of the impact of their own actions, compelling them to look closely at their lives, think about their character and nature, and realize the impact of their sins. Though they had been so “accustomed to do evil,” they could still turn around and do good.

Although they might have been blaming others and feeling innocent, the problem was their blind spots. They didn’t recognize the impact of their own words and actions, their own sins and habits.

All of us have blind spots. We can easily justify our own thoughts and actions while blaming others. It can be difficult to face the reality of our hearts and minds. We tend to overlook our own flaws, but God wants to remove whatever is preventing us from seeing the truth about ourselves.

All of us need to ask if we’re blind to our own sins—if we need to change. Is there anything keeping us from seeing our true condition?

Ask God to search your heart and reveal any blind spots in your life. Ask Him to help you see yourself in His light and be willing to change. Ask Him to help you, by His power, to become more like Christ.
