Who Really Is Pure?

Who Really Is Pure?

In our most spiritual moments, we can imagine that we might have advanced to a special status. We might feel proud about our spirituality. With a sense of superiority, we might find it easy to criticize others and hold ourselves as models. We even might convince ourselves that we are without fault.

The Bible reminds us, “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). In fact, “the heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked; who can know it?” (Jeremiah 17:9). These truths apply to each of us.

The Bible tells us these truths to remind us why we must stay humble. Whenever we have feelings of superiority, we should remember the horrible consequences of pride. This is an attitude that “goes before destruction.” In fact, a haughty spirit leads to “a fall” (Proverbs 16:18).

In contrast, the Bible reminds us of the blessings that result from an attitude of humility. As we stay humble, we are in a position to receive God’s wisdom and favor.

The reality is that God knows each of us better than we know ourselves. In fact, He knows everything about us. He sees our hearts and minds and knows what we really think and feel (Psalm 139:1-4). He knows the reality. We can’t fool Him!

Today, humble yourself before God. Approach life with the spirit of humility. Be careful before criticizing others. Stay on guard against pride.
