What God Has Given Us

Moses embraced God’s assignment with reluctance. When the Lord told him to return to Egypt, Moses knew that he would face many difficulties. It seemed impossible to accomplish what God was calling him to do.

First, Moses asked God some practical questions, like this: “What if they will not believe me or listen to what I say?” After all, he had personal experience interacting with the Israelite leaders. But, one by one, God addressed his concerns and showed him how to face each challenge.

To prove that He truly had spoken to him, God asked Moses, “What is that in your hand?” Then he told Moses to throw his staff to the ground. It “became a serpent,” and Moses reacted with fear.

Then God told Moses to grasp the serpent by its tail. When he did, the serpent became a staff again. Clearly, here was a miraculous sign—a sign that would help the Israelite leaders believe that God “has appeared to you.”

But this also was a sign for Moses himself, giving him confidence for what he was about to face. It demonstrated that the Lord could use him and equip him to do miraculous things. It allowed him to realize that God would transform him as he obeyed his calling and utilized his gifts.

As you face challenges, you may feel unworthy or inadequate. You might have questions and reservations. But you can learn from Moses’ life. Start by using the gifts and talents you have been given. Be a faithful servant. Move forward in faith. Then expect God to bless and multiply your investment and increase your impact.
