War with the Saints

Daily Devotional2 Minutes

Do you ever feel like Satan is at war with the saints? That’s normal!

“Also it was given to him to make war with the saints and to overcome them, and authority was given to him over every tribe, people, language, nation.”—Revelation 13:7 NASB

Some Christians seem surprised when they experience problems—when things don’t seem to work out the way they expected or when they are persecuted for their faith.

We need to remember that the Bible tells us we should expect to go through tribulations in this life. Both James and Peter write about encountering “various trials” (James 1:2; 1 Peter 1:6). Paul writes about being afflicted, perplexed, persecuted, and struck down (2 Corinthians 4:8–9). Revelation describes a time when the “beast” was given permission to make war against the saints, and he was even able to “overcome them” for a time.

Yes, Satan is at war with God’s people. But the Bible reminds us that the devil is already a defeated foe, for Jesus is the victor! God is sovereign, and He has an eternal plan for our lives. He is our rock, fortress, deliverer, and shield (Psalm 18:1–2). We can depend on Him and trust Him to guide and protect us. Although we will go through short-term problems, we must remember that we are “more than conquerors” through Christ (Romans 8:37 NKJV).

If you go through trials and experience problems, don’t despair or give up, but fill your life with praise to God! Use the authority God has given you over the enemy. Obey His Word and grow stronger in the Holy Spirit. Trust in the Lord. Persevere. Rejoice that Jesus is the victor!

Reflection Question: What current trials do you need to commit to God today?
