What Do You Want Jesus to Do?

Bartimaeus had been persistent, crying out to Jesus, even though many rebuked him and told him to be quiet. Facing many obstacles, he easily could have been discouraged. But, refusing to give up, he kept shouting. Because of his persistence, Jesus stopped and called him.

It seems obvious what Bartimaeus wanted. After all, he was blind. But Jesus still asked him this simple question: “What do you want me to do for you?” And Bartimaeus gave this honest, straightforward response: “I want to regain my sight.” Only after receiving the specific answer did Jesus take action, announcing, “Your faith has healed you.”

God looks at our lives in the same way. Our needs can seem obvious. It can seem that He should know what we need without saying a word. Yet He still asks us, “What do you want me to do for you?”

He wants our perspective on our lives, and He wants us to articulate the concerns of our heart. He wants to know how much we want answers to our problems. Are we content with the life we are living? Do we really want Him to answer our prayers and provide for our needs? Do we really want to change, overcome bad habits, and escape the bondages of sin and the flesh?

Think about these principles in your life. Don’t be afraid or timid, but tell God the deepest needs of your heart. Demonstrate your desire for change through your persistence and faith in Him. He is waiting to hear from you.
