Your Unique Perspective

When the foundation for the new temple was laid, some celebrated with great joy. From their perspective, this was a glorious moment. Yet others, who saw the exact same event, were filled with sadness and “wept with a loud voice.” Why such a sharp contrast? Because different people had different backgrounds and different perspectives.

Those who had never seen the original temple rejoiced. But those who remembered what Solomon had built knew that the new temple did not measure up to the original. They also realized what they had lost and the consequences of their sins.

Which was the proper reaction? Perhaps both, as people reacted in different ways, expressing their own emotions and thoughts.

As we go through life, each of us sees events from a unique perspective. We each have our own priorities and histories, families and personal experiences. Our own thoughts and emotions. Talents and gifts. Needs and interests.

God knows that each of us is different. And we need to remember that others may react to events in ways different than we do. As the Bible tells us, we should “rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep” (Romans 12:15).

Today, remember that you are unique. That God has given you a special perspective on life. And He has a distinctive calling just for you. Seek to be faithful to that very personal, special call. But also remember that others may not react to events or see things, the same way you do. Ask God to help you be sensitive to the needs of others and to His Spirit. Let Him give you His love. His compassion. His wisdom. And His discernment.
