Unchanging Truth

When asked about his career, a famous athlete recently confessed, “You start off playing honest, but you learn in life that if you ain’t cheatin’, you ain’t tryin’.”

Many people have this attitude. We look around and see people who appear to have gained wealth and power by cheating and lying. They don’t hesitate to deceive others or act without moral constraints. They excuse themselves and believe that “the end justifies the means.”

Even Christians can find themselves following these examples and imitating the world and its corrupt ways. But God wants us to understand that we have a higher standard.

We see this when God said people who disobeyed His Law were guilty…even when unaware that they had sinned. Why? Because they broke the Law. It was that simple. They were held responsible for their actions.

We see this every day in the physical laws of the universe. For example, the law of gravity functions whether or not we agree with it or even are conscious of it. In the same way, God’s laws and principles simply are true, all the time. They do not change. We will pay the consequences if we violate His Law, and this is an important reason to know His Word!

Today, make a commitment to stand on God’s Word. Be honest, and let others see that you are a person of principle. Do not compromise, cheat, or deceive. Let your “yes” mean “yes” and your “no” mean “no” (Matthew 5:37).

Ask God to help you remain firm when you face temptation. If you sin, ask for forgiveness. Remember: Pleasing God is more important than the transitory riches and fame of this world.
