Turnaround for Troubled Men

A spirit of hopelessness had spread throughout the land.

Not much earlier, there had been optimism after David led Israel’s army to victories over their adversaries. But the environment had deteriorated. Threatened by David’s military successes and popularity, King Saul made him an enemy, pursuing him relentlessly.

As David fled to a place of safety, people throughout Israel seemed to feel relieved. They knew he was a hunted man, and that there was a risk for anyone who supported him.

However, David provided hope for better days ahead. This hope particularly resonated with those who were troubled and weary…those who felt distressed or discontent…and even those who were in debt. He became a refuge for many who faced problems and didn’t know where else to turn.

David’s example reminds us of the promise made by Jesus to His followers, “Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light” (Matthew 11:28-30).

Jesus offers help for anyone who feels in trouble, and for any kind of need or burden. This includes those who are sick or discouraged, and those who are worried or afraid. He can turnaround any situation for those who are willing to come to Him and call on Him for help.

In your life, remember that you always can take refuge in Jesus. Call on Him for any troubles you face. And commit to Him people you know who need His help.
