The Only True Gospel

Paul warned the Galatians that many of them had embraced “a different gospel.” In fact, he was amazed that they would abandon what they had been taught “so quickly.” Many Galatians believed a message they thought was true. They were deceived by ideas that sounded good or authentic. They might have been manipulated by people who reinterpreted the Word according to their own interests.

Paul cautioned that even “an angel from heaven” might proclaim a “different gospel.” In other words, deception can come through anyone. Even if we hear from an angel, we still need to be on guard.

In our time, the world is filled with deception. Some proclaim a false Gospel. Others distort the Word of God and attract followers with their rhetoric. Just as in Paul’s time, the reality is that there’s only one, true, authentic Gospel. This Good News did not originate from any person, but from God Himself! As Paul said, “The Gospel I preached is not something that man made up” (v. 11 NIV). This is why we need to know the Word of God and check everything we hear against it.

Today, make sure you are on guard and ready for deception. Don’t be quick to follow new doctrines or embrace messages just because they sound good. Don’t embrace a philosophy or teaching just because it was said convincingly by a celebrity or author. Instead, renew your commitment to God and to Him alone. Fill your mind and heart with His Word, and stand firmly on its truths.

Do not compromise! Live your life according to the principles in God’s Word.
