Ties of Love

God knows our weaknesses. He’s not caught off guard when we’re tempted or when we sin.

God likened this awareness to the experiences of the prophet Hosea, who had been called to marry a prostitute. In spite of everything, God reaches out to us in compassion, just as Hosea was asked to love his wife who had been a harlot.

God loved His people as “a youth,” even though “they kept sacrificing to the Baals and burning incense to idols” (vs. 1-2). God taught them “to walk” (v. 3) and cared about them even when they didn’t realize He was there. He saw their sins but still was ready to teach them, guide them, and heal them. He acted with both strength and gentleness, force and compassion-leading them with “cords” and “bonds of love.”

Even though He knew they still were prone to wander, God continued to love them, reach out to them, and show them His mercy. With great tenderness He told them, “My heart is turned over within Me, all My compassions are kindled” (v. 8). Yet God still mourned their wrong actions and attitudes toward Him.

The revelation God gave through the prophet Hosea helps us realize that He sees everything about our lives: what we do and how we act, our sins and our mistakes. But He wants to lead us in the right paths so we can avoid trouble and receive His blessings. He wants to protect and guide us, helping us develop better discernment!

Today, commit your life to God. Remember just how much He loves you. Don’t be afraid or hold back! Be honest with Him, and seek Him with your whole heart. You can trust your life to Him and allow Him to lead you and be your Shepherd. Know that He will do it all in love!
