This Is Your Life

“This Is Your Life” was a pioneering program in the history of American television. For years, beginning in 1952, it was a perennial favorite of viewers. It was hosted and produced by Ralph Edwards, who was born 100 years ago today.

These programs frequently were highly emotional, as friends and family surprised celebrities, paying tribute and telling memorable stories about that person’s life. Each moment was orchestrated carefully to enhance the impact of the story, and only special elements were selected.

In many ways, this concept provides a kind of preview to an event we all will face. It is the moment when God will open “the books” on our lives and judge everything we’ve done, whether positive or negative. This will include everything—the things we’re proud of and the mistakes we’ve made. Likewise, this judgment will reveal the things other people know about us and also the secret things known only to God.

Some may be surprised by this day of reckoning. Yet they shouldn’t be surprised, for the Bible clearly warns that this day awaits all of us. There is still time to get ready—but how?

First, we can prepare by getting our lives right with God. This means asking Him to convict us of any sins, and then accepting His forgiveness once we have confessed those sins.

When God reveals an area of sin in our life, we must sincerely repent, which means changing directions. If we truly repent, we will seek to live according to His Word and eliminate thoughts, words, and actions that grieve Him.

In your life, don’t put this off. Get your life right with God today. Fill your mind and heart with His Word and make it your standard. Become more sensitive to the convicting work of the Holy Spirit. Listen to His warnings, and let Him guide you.
