The Wonder That Jesus Loves Me

See how the wonder that Jesus loves me is revealed through His sacrifice and abiding presence, bringing rest, assurance, and freedom from fear to all who receive His love.

“As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Abide in my love” (John 15:9).

Philip Bliss, who was born on this day in 1838, joined in with the audience in Chicago, singing about loving Jesus. But as he sang, he asked himself this question: “Have I not been singing enough about my poor love for Jesus, and shall I not rather sing of His great love for me?” Not long after, he wrote a hymn, “Jesus Loves Even Me.”

Bliss had written about divine love: “I am so glad that our Father in Heav’n tells of His love in the Book He has giv’n. Wonderful things in the Bible I see, this is the dearest, that Jesus loves me.”

It was love that brought Jesus “down my poor soul to redeem.” And the presence of the Holy Spirit constantly witnesses that “Jesus loves me.”

Just knowing this love enables us to “find sweetest rest.” When we trust in Jesus, we know we are blessed. Satan flees “when I just tell him that Jesus loves me.”

Envisioning what would happen when he saw Jesus face-to-face in eternity, Bliss wrote that this would be his song: “Oh, what a wonder that Jesus loves me!”

Today, are you glad that Jesus loves you? He loves you just as you are, with all your faults and mistakes. Don’t make it complicated! Confess that love. Receive it. Let that love banish all fear and worry. Allow His love to transform your life.
