The Things of God

The Bible reminds us that things change. As individuals, we change. And the world around us constantly is changing.

One way this is expressed is through the seasons of life. The Bible reminds us that “to everything there is a season,” and a unique purpose. This is true of all of our life experiences: Birth and death, increase and decline, laughter and sadness, gain and loss, speaking and remaining silent, war and peace.

While there is this sense of perpetual change, the Bible also reminds us of eternal truths. The Bible states that “whatever God does, it shall be forever.”

God’s Word is not subject to the changing standards of this world. His principles are true in every generation, regardless of customs, traditions, or trends. His power is just as great whether we are weak or strong. His resources are never reduced, regardless of economic conditions.

The Bible tells us that God does not want us focusing on the temporary things, but rather on Him and the things with eternal meaning. As Paul described, we are not to “look at the things which are seen,” all of which are temporary. Instead, we are to focus in “the things which are not seen.” The things that are “eternal” (2 Corinthians 4:18).

No matter what you are experiencing, remember that everything around you is subject to decay and fluctuating conditions, today’s fashions and fads, what seems popular, and what “everyone is doing.” It all will change. But God’s Word “stands forever” (Isaiah 40:8). It “is settled forever in heaven” (Psalm 119:89).

Ask God to help you have the right priorities, and focus on the things that matter. Stand for what is eternally true. Believe His Word, and have faith in His limitless power. You can trust Him.
