The Power of Love

God shows the power of love in so many ways that we can’t even comprehend.

“Many waters cannot quench love, nor will rivers flood over it; if a man were to give all the riches of his house for love, it would be utterly despised.”—Song of Solomon 8:7 NASB

Solomon described true love as being as “strong as death” (v. 6).

There may be other similar emotions such as admiration, friendship, or lust, but true love strikes much deeper. It cuts to the very core of our being and consumes us—body, soul, and spirit.

Genuine love changes our priorities. Solomon wrote that “a huge torrent cannot extinguish love; rivers cannot sweep it away” (CSB).

This love cannot be purchased. Not even the wealthiest, most powerful people can force love. Love is a fruit of the Holy Spirit (Galatians 5:22). Rather than being just a superficial or transitory emotion, it involves our heart and spirit, the core of our being.

While his immediate context might have been about romantic love, Solomon ultimately was describing the kind of love that only can come from God—the kind of love that God has for us. But this also is a picture of the kind of love we need to have for Him—a passionate love that consumes us, motivates us, and changes our very lives.

God loves you so much that He sent Jesus to die for you! You are special to Him. The deepest human love cannot compare to the depth of His love for you.

This love will change your attitude, your purpose, and your entire life. Receive His love, and let it flow out through you to a lost and needy world.
