The Path

Every day, our lives are subject to many influences—some positive, some negative; some obvious, some subtle. Some influences deceptively promise pleasure and rewards, but they waste our time and only lead to disappointment.

More than ever, it can be easy to be influenced by the media. Commercials, programs, music, films, text messages, blogs, and much more, constantly bombard our minds with waves of images and ideas. We can find ourselves accepting the world’s standards and imitating its lifestyles.

Armed with this warning, we need to be selective about what we allow into our minds. To help us in this process, the Bible instructs us to be sure to base our lives on God’s Word. We are to focus on the goals He has given us—symbolically, to look straight ahead.

The fact is, it is easy to be sidetracked. We can chase after activities that may seem beneficial, but in the end do not profit. This is why the Bible says to be single-minded and focused. It is important to “trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take” (Proverbs 3:5-6 NLT).

Today, make sure that you have committed your life to the Lord. Trust Him completely, and let Him direct your path. As you confront worldly ideas, be sure that you stand on His Word. Seek His help to keep you from being distracted or sidetracked. Stay focused on the goals He has given you.
