The Keys to Success

“Bezalel and Oholiab, and every skillful person in whom the LORD has put skill and understanding to know how to perform all the work in the construction of the sanctuary, shall perform in accordance with all that the LORD has commanded.”- Exodus 36:1 NASB

It must have seemed to be a relief to many Israelites when Bezalel was named to direct the building of the tabernacle. He seemed ideally prepared and equipped, an expert in working with wood, stone, and fabric. A master both of construction and design. A man with all the necessary “knowledge” and “craftsmanship.”

But his skills and experiences were not enough. The real importance was doing “all that the LORD has commanded.” The most important matter was God’s design, and Bezalel’s commitment to do everything according to His plans.

Here is the pattern for success in any effort. First, it is important to recognize that God has a special calling for each person. Each of us, in our own ways, is an expert and specially equipped. Some, like Bezalel, may have extra levels of these gifts, through their experiences and training. Yet even with those “craftsmen,” the real key is submitting everything to God. Learning and following His commands. Using our skills and experiences but always doing things His way.

This means recognizing that everything we have is a gift from Him. As with Bezalel, this means being filled “with the Spirit of God.” Being led by the Spirit. Knowing that without Him we can do nothing.

We must also constantly remember to submit everything to God. To remember that training, skills, and experiences are less important than obeying Him, and following His plans.

In your life, remember to dedicate your life to serving God. Constantly seek to be faithful with the resources He has given you. To develop your gifts and talents. To be a craftsman, committed to working with excellence. But always letting Him guide you. Following His blueprint.

Prayer: Father, thank You for all that You have given me. I commit my time, talent, and treasure to You. Use me to impact others with the Gospel. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
