Strength and Trust

Those who place their trust in the things of the world can feel that they are on an emotional roller coaster. From day to day, they can go from being elated to being worried, from confidence to pessimism. They can feel encouraged one moment, and discouraged the next.

As long as everything is going well, they can have the illusion of stability. But, when problems take place, they can feel shaken. It can be unsettling to realize that the people we depend upon are imperfect, and that there is nothing stable or sure in the world.

But there is a way to be insulated from the ups and downs of the world. The psalmist said that the people who trust in the Lord “shall be as mount Zion.” This mountain “cannot be moved but abides forever.” It is solid and dependable.

This is a picture of the complete stability we can have when we trust in the Lord. But, to have this level of stability, we cannot trust Him some of the time, or in part. We must trust Him with our personal lives, our decisions, and the problems we face. We must trust Him for friends and family members who have needs. We must trust in Him to protect us. And we must depend upon Him for the strength and guidance we need.

What are you depending on today? Your bank account? Your job? The government? Your friends or family? Your appearance or talents? Eventually, you will find that you cannot depend on anything or anyone, other than God.

The Bible encourages us to remember we need to trust in God for everything in our lives. And we are reminded that He is faithful. This trust is as firm and unshakable as Mount Zion which cannot be removed, but abides forever. Today, declare His promises to be true in your life. Be confident in Him!
