Spreading the News

“When they had seen this, they made known the statement which had been told them about this Child. And all who heard it wondered at the things which were told them by the shepherds.” Luke 2:17-18 NASB

It had been a series of amazing experiences, so extraordinary that many might find them unbelievable. Yet these rugged shepherds knew that it all was true.

They all had seen an angel and heard his message. They had witnessed an angelic choir. For reasons they certainly could not have understood, they had been chosen to witness these things, and even see the Child Himself.

When they had left the stable where the Child was lying, they might have pondered the story they would tell. They might have wondered if others would believe them.

But, in the end, they felt compelled to tell the story. They could not help but spread the news. Everyone needed to know what they had seen. They needed to hear the message given them by the angels. They needed to know that the Messiah had been born!

This is the response of hearts that have been transformed. Of lives that have been changed. This is what happens when God reaches down and gives a revelation of something extraordinary. This is more than excitement. More than emotion. This is the power of God at work. A power so vivid that all inhibitions are broken down. We are driven to share. To tell others.

Yet how easily this flame can fade. When it loses its spark. When others doubt or question us. When we become preoccupied and distracted, and our faith grows weak.

These are moments to rekindle that spark. To renew our relationship with God. To remember the miracles we have witnessed. To listen again to His Words. To be stirred anew by the Spirit. Losing every inhibition, ready to share the Word. With boldness spreading the Good News.

Prayer: Father, renew a fire within me. Set me aflame with Your presence. Help me to be so overwhelmed by Your goodness that I cannot help but share the message. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
