Specific Guidance

“David inquired of the Lord . . . . ‘You shall not go up; circle around behind them, and come upon them in front of the mulberry trees . . . when you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the mulberry trees, then you shall advance quickly. For then the Lord will go out before you . . .’ David did so . . . and he drove back the Philistines.” 2 Samuel 5:23-25 NKJV

Facing serious opposition from the Philistines, David needed direction. He could have developed a strategy based on his own experience, or followed the ideas of his own army.
These were prudent approaches, and he might have done both. But the most important decision he made was to commit his needs to God. To seek His wisdom. God responded by giving David very specific direction, and amazing details. He knew exactly what to do.
The Bible makes clear that God desires to guide us. He has given us His Word, to be a lamp to our feet and a light to our path (Psalm 119:105). He promises that those who seek Him, and ask of Him, find Him and hear from Him (Matthew 7:7-8).
But, in spite of all of His promises, the sad truth is that many Believers don’t put His Word into practice. They may read the Bible and go to church, but, when it comes to making decisions, they are more likely to do what seems popular, or just do what they want.
But, for those who trust and obey Him, God offers something much better. A way to achieve maximum success. To receive His fullest blessings! What an opportunity!
What are your challenges? Do you face important decisions? Do you need guidance? Wisdom? Start by seeking God. Commit your needs to Him. Ask Him boldly for the specific direction you need. As you obey, have faith that His blessings will flow into your life.
