Singing Praises

David had become fugitive. Hunted down by the king whom he had served. Treated like a criminal, when he should have been celebrated as a hero. This was at a time when Saul’s men were watching for David, with instructions to kill him.

So David cried out to God for help and deliverance. He knew that He was not impressed or intimidated by the might of armies. He would “laugh at them” and “scoff at all the nations.” He knew that God was his “stronghold.” He knew that “my God in His lovingkindness will meet me.”

Trusting in God, David knew that he would emerge triumphant. And he could not contain his gratefulness but had to sing God’s praises. He felt compelled to “joyfully sing of Your lovingkindness in the morning.”

He sang because he wanted to express what was in his heart, and because singing involved his entire being: his mind and emotions, voice and body. Through singing he could express his relief and gratitude, his thanks and praise.

Today, remember that God is with you. You can count on Him, no matter what problems you face, how hopeless your situation may appear, how discouraged, afraid, or worried you might feel. Make Him your stronghold. He knows your situation. He loves you and is ready to deliver you and give you victory.

Sing His praises. Sing of His goodness, faithfulness, and mercy. Sing because He is your stronghold and refuge. Sing because He hears your prayers. Sing His praises in the morning and at night. Sing loudly and joyfully to His name!
