Silver and Gold Cannot Satisfy

Ezekiel described a time when disaster would come against Israel. But they were not prepared. And it was too late to act.

They might have trusted in their own resources and abilities. But these disasters revealed how these things suddenly seemed meaningless and unimportant. They mattered so little that they would “fling their silver into the streets.” Even their gold would become “abhorrent.” Instead of being treasured, “their silver and their gold will not be able to deliver them.”

Their armies and weapons couldn’t save them. Their riches and connections weren’t enough. None of these things could “satisfy their appetite” or “fill their stomachs.” Instead, their sin and iniquity had become so dominant that it had “become an occasion of stumbling.”

How easy it can be for any of us to have the same expectations. To depend on armies and resources. Our skills and abilities. The things of this world. However, the only thing that really matters is our relationship with God.

The Bible teaches us to realize the importance of understanding His perspective on our lives. We can’t store up enough earthly treasures. Here, “moth and rust destroy” and “thieves break in and steal.”

Instead, we are to store up treasures in Heaven. To invest in God’s Kingdom. For “where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

Instead of depending on the things of this world, we are to “seek first His kingdom,” confident that “all these things will be added to you” (Matthew 6:19-33).

Today, make sure that you have the right priorities. Trusting in God. Seeking first His Kingdom. Confident in your relationship with Him.
