Secure in Your Identity as God’s Child

See how being secure in your identity as God’s child reminds us that His love gives us confidence, strength, and assurance even when the world does not understand us.

“See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him” (1 John 3:1).

John marveled at how much God has done for us. By His amazing love, He enables us to be His children! We have become His sons and daughters, and we now share His nature.

Just like any loving earthly father, God loves to hear from us. He never tires of hearing our voice. He has prepared a reservoir of power and blessings just for us. Through His Spirit, He gives us gifts and fruit, power and victory.

Yet as wonderful as it is to be God’s children, we need to realize that “the world does not know us.” Because of our connection with Him, many will react to us in the same way they react to the Lord. We shouldn’t be surprised when our motives are questioned; when we’re misunderstood and rejected, criticized and mocked; when some people think we’re foolish and refuse to recognize the reality of our spiritual lives; when they refuse to believe that God answers prayer or does miracles.

While unbelieving people react to our human nature, our spiritual nature is hidden from them. Since they don’t understand or know God, we cannot expect them to understand or really know us either.

Don’t be discouraged or troubled by the reactions of others. Resolve to stay true to your Heavenly Father! You are His child, and He loves you! Call on Him anytime, day or night. Tell Him about your concerns and problems, questions, and needs.
