Role Models

Who are the men today’s teens see as their role models? According to a recent survey, many look to powerful politicians, athletes, or pop stars. But only a comparative handful said that the man they most admired was their father. (Sadly, a third of teens did not mention a single person as the man they admired most.)

Paul knew that all of us need role models. This is why he tried to live in such a way that others could follow his example and pattern themselves after him. This meant that he had to be careful what he said and did, and where he went. But he also knew that, to be a good role model, he needed to “imitate and follow Christ.”

He could not succeed in his own strength, but needed to do what Jesus would do in each situation. He needed the power of the Spirit, to know God’s Word, and to apply His principles.

These same principles are true today. The Bible reminds us that people all around us are looking for someone to admire and be a role model – people in our families and neighborhoods, people at work and church.

In your life, seek to be a role model for the people in your life. Remember that you cannot do this in your own strength. You need to surrender your life to the Lordship of Jesus Christ. You need to commit your time, talent, and treasure to Him. You need to apply Biblical principles. And you need the power of the Spirit, and you need to stay sensitive to His leading.

Today, dedicate yourself to follow the example set by Jesus. Ask Him to help you be a role model for people in your life. Allow Him to use you to impact others with the Gospel.
