Righteousness

Daily Devotional2 Minutes

Righteousness doesn’t just shape personal character—it lifts entire nations, calling us to live and lead according to God’s Word.

“Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a disgrace to any people.”—Proverbs 14:34 NASB

There are consequences for our actions. Expressed in agricultural terms, we reap what we sow (Galatians 6:7).

Throughout history, the nations have demonstrated this principle. The Bible tells us that “righteousness exalts a nation.” God promises to raise up and bless nations that make decisions based on biblical principles.

Nations that desire His blessing should submit their decisions to God and seek to follow His ways, looking for His guidance, learning His Word, and applying it. In contrast to this ideal, sin taints nations, which “is a disgrace to any people.”

This principle is true for nations, businesses, churches, and individuals. God looks at our lives to see if we’re seeking His righteousness in our values, how we use our resources, and what we say and do.

If we understand this, we’ll seek to please God in everything we do. We’ll act in ways that are consistent with His Word and apply His principles in every area of our lives. We’ll use our influence to bring righteousness to our nation. We’ll pray for our leaders and support decisions that are consistent with the Bible. We’ll stand against sin and ungodly behavior.

Seek to be free from the poisoning influence of sin. Study God’s Word and live consistently with its principles. Use your influence to encourage righteousness in your home, family, business, church, nation, and the world.

Reflection Question: How can you influence your community to greater righteousness?
