Responsibility

God’s instructions to Aaron and his family were direct and clear. He told them what they were to do and how they were to do it. Then He told them that He was making them “responsible.”

This is a model for the way God looks at each of us. For there are many aspects of the Christian life that apply to everyone. We all have access to His Word and know what is expected of all Believers.

But each of us also has been given specific tasks and assignments. For each person is unique in His eyes. He has given each of us unique gifts and talents, distinctive resources and opportunities. And there are specific things that we are called to do as individuals.

Many Believers take this matter seriously. Like Paul, they want to look back on their lives and say, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, and I have remained faithful” (2 Timothy 4:7 NLT). These people understand God’s expectations and accept their own responsibilities.

Yet some people don’t have this same commitment. They focus on themselves and their own interests. They think of God’s assignments merely as options to be considered. Many of these people aren’t serious and don’t feel any sense of responsibility.

Today, ask God to help you evaluate His call on your life. Are you being faithful with the talents you have been given? Are you genuinely focusing on the assignments He has given you? Remember: Someday you will face God and give Him an account of what you have done. Seek to be faithful, ready to accept your responsibilities.
