Resolute and Determined

“After him was Eleazar . . . one of the three mighty men with David . . . He arose and struck the Philistines until his hand was weary and clung to the sword, and the Lord brought about a great victory that day.” 2 Samuel 23:9-10 NASB

How did a person become one of the “mighty” men of Israel? Others were honored for bravery or achieving great things. Yet some did extraordinary things that earned them the distinction of being “mighty.”

Eleazar became one of these men. He was honored because he was bold and fearless, willing to stand up against their enemies even under adverse conditions, even facing dangers and risks.

Although this was not an easy challenge, he showed relentless determination and “arose and struck the Philistines until his hand was weary.” Eleazar threw himself into the battle. Nothing could make him stop. He stayed on the job until the task was accomplished. And, because of his personal determination, “the Lord brought about a great victory.”

If you want to be mighty in God’s sight, simply apply these same principles in your life. Remember that He honors those who live by faith. Who trust Him, regardless of the task. He calls us to be bold, and never to be timid or reluctant. So confident in Him that we never feel defeated, and aren’t intimidated by any foe. That we never give up, even if our opposition possesses massive resources.

Remember, God knows that you will face opposition and problems that may seem impossible to overcome. You may be tired and weary from your effort. You may feel alone, exhausted, and unappreciated. But in every situation, keep trusting in Him. Keep living by faith. Stay obedient, bold, and determined. And stay on guard until your assignment is complete, and the victory is won.

Ask God to help you be mighty in His sight today.

Prayer: Father, help me to be mighty in Your sight. Give me boldness and the faith to serve You without fear. Give me great determination to stay focused on Your calling. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
