Remembering

It is a pattern often repeated. In human terms, we can call it “selective memory.” This means remembering only some past events and, for whatever reason, forgetting others. In spiritual terms, this means only remembering some things God has done for us while forgetting others. Failing to remember how He has answered prayers, kept His Word, and blessed us.

We may forget, but God remembers everything! He knows our nature, and how we can have selective memory. This is one reason why He designated special days as appointed times for special ceremonies. To help us remember important truths. He also set aside special places to help us remember our past, and to remind us of His Word.

As God interacted with the Israelites, He knew that they might have questions. Future generations might ask “why” about these special days. Why the celebration? What is the purpose and meaning?

Tonight ends the annual celebration of Passover. This is one of those special days. When He instituted this day, God knew that future generations would ask, “What does this ceremony mean to you?” These would be moments to remind them of their history. Of God’s actions, how He brought them out of Egypt “with a mighty hand” (Exodus 13:14).

As we go through life, it is important to remember the many ways God has blessed us. The times He has performed miracles and answered prayer. The moments when He had given us victory and met our needs. The days like Passover that are special to Him.

In your life, think about all that He has done for you. Don’t take these blessings for granted, but be thankful. Focus on Him, and celebrate His faithfulness.
