Religious or Following Jesus?

Inspiration MinistriesBy Inspiration Ministries2 Minutes

From a child, Ahaz had been taught about God and instructed in His Word. But when he became king, he embraced a life of sin and wickedness. Yet he remained obsessed with religion.

He expressed this interest by making idols, worshiping other gods, and burning sacrifices and incense. But he refused to follow the truths he had been taught. As a result of his sins, he became a prisoner in Damascus.

When confronted with problems, some turn to God. But Ahaz became even more unfaithful, offering sacrifices to the gods of Damascus who had defeated him.

There are many ways to get off track and go the wrong way. Many people have been like Ahaz. They have been taught the truths of the Bible and heard the Gospel. Yet, for whatever reason, they choose to develop their own views of being “religious.”

Some, rejecting Biblical Christianity, pursue other religions or New Age philosophies. Many, like Ahaz, have embraced deceptive religious activities or false gospels. Others believe that all religions basically are the same.

Jesus reminded us of the importance of entering “through the narrow gate.” To recognize that there is a broad way that seems popular (Matthew 7:13). But Jesus taught that He alone was “the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me” (John 14:6).

Today, be sure that you follow the narrow way. Don’t be distracted by the “broad way” or fooled by deceptive ideas. Stay committed to Jesus. Make Him the Lord of your life.
