Ready for God

It was an ordinary day. Nothing special was anticipated. Ezekiel was being himself, just going through life. There is no indication that he was seeking God in any unusual way. He was not expecting any unusual visitors or experiencing any unusual burdens.

Then, suddenly the heavens “opened” and he “saw visions of God” and “the word of the Lord” came to him. At that moment, his life changed forever. Ezekiel did not orchestrate these events. Everything happened according to God’s timetable. His Spirit moved.

God acted sovereignly, fulfilling His plans. Ezekiel just had to be ready, for God had chosen him to be His messenger.

The Bible reminds us that God has a unique plan for each of our lives. And each of us has been given unique resources. As Jesus taught, we are called to be good stewards of those resources. We are to follow His leading and be sensitive to His voice. We are to be ready for those moments when He calls and when He might open the windows of Heaven in new ways.

Today, remember that you are special to God. He has given you special gifts and talents and has a special calling for you. Make sure to be a good steward, faithfully investing the resources you have been given. But also seek to be sensitive to His leading. Carefully listen. Always be ready for His call.
