Preparing for the Future

Inspiration MinistriesBy Inspiration Ministries2 Minutes

The future is coming, with inevitable consequences. Regardless of how much we may resist this reality, it is true. This means that everything about our lives will change. Sometimes all at once. Sometimes gradually.

We experience this kind of change in our minds and bodies. To this point, the Wellness Institute at the Cleveland Clinic reports that “every function of the human body declines 5 percent every 10 years.” It is known that age-related hearing starts declining at 25, and that many start losing bone mass in their 30s.

Speed of processing and working memory peak in the 20s and gradually start declining. Vision often starts deteriorating around the age of 40.

These may seem like depressing doses of reality. But the fact is that these patterns are inevitable for all of us. Yet some ignore them. Others simply delay dealing with them.

But consistent recommendation of physicians and professional researchers is to prepare for the future as early as possible. Many doctors confirm the recommendation that the earlier we start preparing the better.

These patterns also are true in the spiritual realm. The fact is that life is short, for all of us. And we all inevitably will face God, and give an account of our lives. Many simply deny this reality. Others avoid the subject, throwing themselves into a life of short-term pleasures that don’t last. As Paul described, many devote themselves to a life of revelry.

Paul urged us to realize that we have choices about how we prepare for the future, and our eternal destination. To realize that the Gospel is true.

In your life, how are you preparing for your future?
