Prepared by God

Paul realized that God had allowed him to go through some challenging experiences. He had been “afflicted . . . perplexed . . . persecuted . . . struck down.” And his outer man was “decaying.” But all of this had a purpose, so he could be refined and prepared (2 Corinthians 4:8-18).

He realized how our earthly tent was being “torn down” so we can have an eternal building from God, “a house not made with hands.” He knew we might “groan” for a time, and face short-term burdens. But Paul knew that God had a purpose for allowing these things in our lives.

How did Paul know this? Because God had given the Spirit as a “pledge,” allowing him to taste the riches of God’s kingdom. With his eyes enlightened, he knew that God’s promises were true. He gained God’s perspective on his experiences, and realized he could trust Him.

Jesus demonstrated the importance of preparation during the days leading up to His crucifixion. Everything was prepared according to God’s plans. Each event was designed to accomplish His eternal purposes. And Jesus stayed faithful to these plans.

That same principle is true in your life. You might feel overwhelmed, discouraged, or abandoned. You might feel worried or doubtful. Instead, think about the “pledge” that He has given you in the person of His Spirit. What has He done for you already? What miracles has He performed in your life? All of these things are just a down payment. Much more is to come!

No matter how things may appear, remember that God is at work in your life, preparing you, and allowing you to go through experiences to teach and train you, and equip you for greater blessings. You can trust in Him!
