Preparations

David had an idea: He believed that a temple should be built that would honor God. A spiritual home for his people.

But God told David that He wanted his son, Solomon, to build the temple. At this point, it would have been understandable if David had stopped thinking about this project. Instead, David realized he could help by making preparations.

First, he considered that Solomon was young and inexperienced, but had been given a major task. So, David decided to do what he could to prepare the way.

David forged arrangements and secured resources. He trained his son to accomplish this task. He worked with Israel’s leaders to be sure that they knew the importance of this project, and gained their cooperation. Though Solomon completed the temple, David’s preparation played an important part.

Here we see the importance of preparation in the work of God. The one who does the preparation is vital to the completion of the work. Paul, for example, described how he planted while “Apollos watered; but God gave the increase” (1 Corinthians 3:6).

In your life, you can make preparations for others by teaching Sunday school, raising your children for Christ, or exhorting, instructing, or encouraging others with the things God has shown you. And, you can give your time, talent, and treasure to His work. Remember, that when you contribute in these ways, you are playing a critical role in the work of God’s Kingdom.

Today, ask God what He wants you to do to help others, and accomplish the work of His Kingdom. Give freely, as unto Him.
