Prayer Focus

The Bible is clear and direct: Prayer is important. It is to be a central part of the Christian life. The Bible also makes clear that prayer matters. That prayer changes things. Most Believers would admit that they pray. But are they serious about prayer? Do they really believe in the power of prayer? And what do they pray about?

Among the most important commands of the Bible is that we pray “for kings and all who are in authority.” Yet a recent survey reveals that few Believers actually pray for their “government leaders.” In fact, they are just as likely to pray for their favorite sports team to win as for government leaders. Even more admit praying to win the lottery!

And even though Christians are commanded to pray, less than half said that they prayed every day.

How would you describe your prayer life? How often do you pray? And what do you pray for? Do you really believe that God answers your prayer? If you do, prayer must be a high priority, an indispensable part of your daily life.

In your prayer time, don’t just focus on yourself and your personal interests (like your favorite sports team). And don’t just pray about problems you face. As Jesus directed us, remember to spend time in worship. Develop your relationship with the Father. And seek to pray for people you know have needs. People who need salvation. Who need healing. Who face crises. Who have burdens.

Don’t forget to pray for the leaders of your country, your state, your community, your church. And don’t neglect prayer, but make it a priority. Today!
