Praising Our Creator

Daily Devotional2 Minutes

“Let them praise the name of the LORD! For he commanded and they were created. And he established them forever and ever; he gave a decree, and it shall not pass away.” – Psalm 148:5-6 ESV

Wherever he turned, the psalmist found reasons to praise the Lord. He called everything and everyone to praise Him – all the universe – including angels and hosts, sun, moon, and stars!

His heart filled with praise as he considered nature: snow, rain, wind, and fire. He marveled at mountains, hills, rivers, oceans, trees with their fruit, beasts, and birds. The range of God’s creations astonished him.

He thought about the diversity of humanity, races and personalities, interests and resources, study and growth, and the impact of change. He considered shape and design, the abilities the Lord gives each of us, and the opportunity to experience life.

We can be focused on problems, but the psalmist challenges us to realize the glories of creation and think about God as our Creator. He spoke, and everything was created out of nothing (Genesis 1:2). Be amazed that all creation owes its very existence to Him and that each one of us is special in His sight.

We can easily take life for granted. The psalmist urges us to stop and consider creation every day, no matter who we are or where we go, and to realize all we owe to God. Ponder all He has given us, the glories of simple things, trees, plants, flowers, clouds, sunsets, and sunrises. Praise Him for the food that nourishes us, the water that sustains us, the beauty that inspires us, and our families and friends.

Praise Him!
