Overwhelmed by God’s Presence

Others may have looked around them and seen buildings and natural splendors. They may have seen villages and cities. Mountains and structures. But the psalmist sensed a different dimension. Not just beautiful sights and magnificent structures, but the very presence of God. And he found all of these things to be demonstrations of His glory.

Pondering these things, the psalmist became overwhelmed. He marveled at the world God had created. By His designs. By the places He had chosen.

Kings might have assembled, seeking to assert their own will, but they were as nothing before God. When they assembled, “they were astounded; they were in panic; they took to flight.” What was different? God’s presence. There, everything was different.

When you look at the world, what do you see? Just the sights of nature. Intriguing clouds and majestic mountains. Spectacular sunrises and moonlit nights. The terrors of erupting volcanoes and violent twisters.

It can be easy to focus on these but forget to think about the Creator.

The One who designed and created everything. Our vision changes when our minds and hearts are filled with His presence. When we ponder His creation, and are amazed and grateful for all He has done.

These are reasons to make God the focus of our lives. To fill our minds and hearts with His Word that we might think His thoughts. To spend quality time with Him in prayer, that we might know Him more intimately, that our lives might be filled with His presence. That He might give us His wisdom and perspective.

Don’t be content with the superficial. Seek God afresh. Worship Him.
