The Impact of Our Testimony

The results seemed guaranteed. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego had refused to bow to the image of Nebuchadnezzar, the result of a strategy devised by some Chaldeans to control worship in Babylon.

When they refused to bow, Nebuchadnezzar was forced to sentence them to “a blazing fiery furnace.” The heat was so intense that the soldiers who accompanied them were burned to death. Yet, even though they were in the center of this fire, these Hebrews emerged unscathed.

Every first-hand witness realized that they had seen a miracle. They “saw these men on whose bodies the fire had no power.” How could this have happened? They thought about the fourth man who they witnessed in the fire, this “Son of God.” And they realized that the faith of these men was real. That their God was real.

We can imagine how these witnesses must have talked about this amazing event. The word must have spread. Thus, their faithfulness and faith became a witness to people throughout Babylon.

As this story reminds us, others are watching our lives. They want to see how we react to all kinds of circumstances. They want to see what we will say and do, and if our faith is real. If we really believe what we say. Through every kind of experience, we become witnesses, with the opportunity to impact others, and testify to our faith.

In your life, remember that others are watching you! They want to see how you react. How you live. What you say and do. Remember that these are opportunities for you to witness, and for Him to demonstrate His reality through your life.
