“Then they will call me, but I won’t answer; they will search for me, but won’t find me. Because they hated knowledge, didn’t choose to fear the Lord, were not interested in my counsel, and rejected all my correction, they will eat the fruit of their way and be glutted with their own schemes.” Proverbs 1:28-31 HCSB

Every day, we all must make decisions. About our diet and health. Our relationships and schedules. Our time and money. To help us make the right choices, God has given us His Word, filled with principles. And He has given us His Spirit.

He promises to guide and bless those who listen and obey. Who let Him direct their steps and trust Him. But what happens to those who willingly choose to ignore Him? Who reject His ways and go their own?

The Bible reminds us that these people will reap what they have sown. They will “eat the fruit of their way and be glutted with their own schemes.”

They will be reminded that God promised help if they had listened: “If you respond to my warning, then I will pour out my spirit on you and teach you my words.” But, instead, they rejected or ignored His warnings. He “called out” to them but they “refused.” He “extended my hand” but “no one paid attention.” They “neglected all my counsel and did not accept my correction.”

This is a reminder of our opportunities and responsibilities, and that there are consequences for our actions. Will we listen to God, or go our own way?

How are you approaching the decisions in your life? Don’t ever take God for granted. Instead, learn His principles by filling your mind with His Word. Take this seriously. Know His Word, and ask Him to show you how it applies to every situation you face. And stay sensitive to His Spirit. Be a person of constant prayer, committing your needs to Him, carefully listening, always seeking to obey.

Scripture: “Then they will call me, but I won’t answer; they will search for me, but won’t find me. Because they hated knowledge, didn’t choose to fear the Lord, were not interested in my counsel, and rejected all my correction, they will eat the fruit of their way and be glutted with their own schemes.” Proverbs 1:28-31 HCSB

Prayer: Father, give me sensitivity to Your Word. Guide me. Help me to make the right decisions. Thank You for hearing me when I call. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
