Something wonderful happens when we confess our sins and make Jesus our Lord. Some think that following Jesus simply makes us better people or reforms us. But the Bible promises something much greater: We actually become “a new creation.”

“The new has come!” This truth is important for new believers, but it remains just as powerful throughout our Christian lives.

Many Christians carry unnecessary burdens. They’re paralyzed by mistakes from their past, weighed down with sin, overwhelmed by worries and cares. They may feel inadequate to face life’s challenges, uncertain about their direction, or anxious about troubles in the world.

Allow the “old” to pass away! Ask God for forgiveness, realizing that, through Christ, we can leave the past behind. We are new creations.

All of us have sinned and fallen short of God’s glory (Romans 3:23). But no matter what we’ve done, He’s ready to forgive and cleanse us (1 John 1:9). How simple! Yet how hard it can be to believe that this is true—that we really are a new creation in Christ!

How far does God separate us from our past? From anything that might haunt us or hold us back? “As far as the east is from the west” (Psalm 103:12). He wants us to be completely free! Completely new.
